The ILLIAC Spring Festival takes place in Downtown Urbana, Illinois in May, as a hearty handshake to the students ready to depart for the Summer, and as a welcome wagon for the wonderful weather to come.

Why is it called The ILLIAC? We named it that to honor the fact that Urbana, Illinois was actually home to the first piece of computer music ever composed, The Illiac Suite, in 1956 at the University of Illinois. Champaign-Urbana is home to a very rich musical history, and there is something strong in the first three letters I-L-L that makes us all proud in one way or another.

So, that's why we went with The ILLIAC. Nothing more, nothing less.

The event is produced by The Nicodemus Agency, known best for staging Pygmalion Music Festival for the past decade all around both Champaign and Urbana, and done so in partnership with The Canopy Club, the most prolific and important live music venue of the past 15 years in all of downstate Illinois. They are also the producers of the Summer Camp Music Festival in Chillicothe, the largest music festival in downstate Illinois.

What's it all about? It's real easy: this is a FREE, outdoor event that is designed to get people out on a Saturday to enjoy Downtown Urbana and all of its offerings. We'll supply the entertainment, the refreshments, and the sunshine, and you provide us with company.
